Commissioning FAQs

This is your chance to own a cast of your vulva by the most famous vulva artists of them all. Jamie offers this service in order to fund his ongoing diversity projects. By commissioning a vulva cast you are not just getting yourself a little piece of art history you are funding historical artworks as well. It’s a win win!

The casting is an exciting collaboration between you and Jamie. You tell us your vision for what you would like and we will create it using our unique methods and style. As you can see there are many different materials we use. If you would like something different just let us know. It is an intimate and engaging process in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

1. Where do you do it?
   We have studios in Brighton UK and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If you are unable to come to us we do visit clients at home but there is a cost.
2. Who does the casting?
   As the lead artist, Jamie usually takes the moulds himself. He also has several female assistants who help as necessary. Let us know if you have a preference.
3. Is it discreet?
   Discretion is at the heart of what we do. We have many celebrity clients. We know how to keep our mouths shut! Nobody will ever know you have been cast unless you tell them. You may also anonymously add your cast to our Labia Library or Vulva Galleries if you would like to.
4. What do you use?
   We use a medical grade, skin-safe material called alginate to make the moulds. It is the same as dentists use to make moulds inside the mouth. It is a seaweed-based powder that when mixed with water sets into a rubber in a few minutes.
5. How does it work?
   We carefully but quickly apply the moulding materials to your body as a liquid, before it sets. Over that we apply a layer of plaster bandage. When this has hardened we remove the whole mould and make the cast from inside it. To see the process click the link below.
6. How long does it take?
   It’s very quick! It takes only around ten minutes to make the mould.
7. Does the plaster pull out any hair?
   Not usually. We don’t use plaster directly on the body and we also use a release agent to stop that happening as much as possible. If you are very hairy it would be better to use clippers to make it as short as possible. We can cast hair but the results are less detailed. The hair has to be flattened down and can look a bit matted. You can see hairy examples on the Education page
8. Does it hurt?
   Not at all. Most people describe it as an unusual or interesting sensation, bordering on pleasant!
9. Is it safe?
   Alginate is designed to be used inside the mouth and is thus completely skin safe. Nobody has every reported a reaction and we use a barrier cream on the skin first anyway.
10. Do I need to make an appointment?
    Yes, you will need an appointment. Use the link below to let us know with as much detail as possible what you are interested in and when and where you’d like to come in.
11. I have an idea but I don’t see anything like it here. Do you just do vulvas?
    Besides just the vulva area we do more of your body if you would like. In fact we cast everything up to whole bodies and people together! The only limit is your imagination. Only a fraction of the things we’ve done are currently on this site. If you have something specific or even just a vague idea in mind do feel free to run it by us, however unusual. We can cast pretty much anything you want, and in fact encourage our clients to get creative and involved in the artistic process as much as they would like to. Bring it on!
12. There’s a few of us. Can we do it together?
    Yes certainly. Women often come in pairs or groups. We can even get all your casts framed together and everyone can get a copy.
13. How do I pay?
    Payment can be made by card in the studio or we can send you a secure link. You can also pay via Wise (a bank transfer in your local currency) or with cash.
14. Can I bring my partner?
    Of course. You can bring anyone along you like.
15. What should I wear?
    Ideally wear loose-fitting clothes appropriate for a workshop. Tight knickers can leave elastic marks in the skin which may show in the cast so best to avoid those.
16. How long does it take to get a finished piece?
    That depends on how busy we are and what material you choose. Most things take between four and eight weeks at the moment. Foundry cast bronze, marble or glass casts may take longer. If you have an urgent deadline or have just left it very late we can often accommodate you if we have capacity so do feel free to ask.
17. Can’t I just do it myself?
    Yes of course. Anyone can do it. We even produce a kit you can buy to do it yourself. The difference is like anything if it’s your first time you may not get as good a result as having the experts do it. But it is fun! Also we work in a huge range of materials and the kits are aimed at amateurs and only cast in plaster.
18. If I do it can you finish it?
    Yes we can. You can send us your plaster cast and we’ll professionally finish it in any material. This is a good option if you can’t come to us, or can’t afford to bring us to you or are just very private but want something better than plaster. Of course the result will only be as good as your cast but there’s enough in each kit to make two (so you can make one mistake) and we also have a few tricks up our sleeves!
